Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. May serve as lead worker. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Essential Duties: Receives project assignments, determines work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate projects already underway. Performs advanced and specialized design work. Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features. Prepares budget estimates Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans. Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications. Reviews work done by others for drafting and calculation errors Trains less experienced technicians. Uses additional automated design tools or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing, traffic management, geometric design, signal lighting design, retaining walls and building design. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned     Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies. Experience: 8 years drafting, design, plan preparation. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
