Description The Department of Religious Studies in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences at Southern Methodist University invites applications for a non-tenure-track position in Jewish Studies at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. The position requires residency in Dallas beginning August 1, 2027. The position is renewable after three and/or five years with the possibility of promotion. The teaching load is three classes in each of the fall and the spring semesters. Department of Religious Studies: The Department of Religious Studies at SMU is a dynamic, exceptionally collegial group of researchers and teachers with intellectual breadth that spans the globe, multiple academic disciplines, and several thousand years of history. To learn more about the rich and vibrant culture of SMU, please visit Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or ABD in Jewish Studies or related field. Ability to teach undergraduate courses, both introductory and advanced, on a wide range of topics in Jewish Studies and direct the Jewish Studies program (currently a minor). Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment. Expertise in some facet of Judaism/Jewish life. Competence to teach an introductory course in Jewish Studies as well as upper-level classes in Jewish history, culture, experience, religion, etc. Ability to direct a Jewish Studies minor in the department and perform relevant administrative duties including course scheduling, recruiting, advising minors, and event programming. Capacity to contribute to the Graduate Program in Religious Studies.
