Description The School of Engineering Medicine (SEM) at Texas A&M University (TAMU) invites applications to fill one (1) full-time faculty position at the Associate Professor level, with tenure review upon hire, with a focus on molecular or cellular therapeutics. This is a full-time, 9-month appointment with an anticipated start date in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will maintain an externally funded research program and advance molecular or cellular therapeutics from product scale-up and validation through manufacturing, clinical translation, distribution, and commercialization. The candidate will also build collaborations across academic, clinical, research, biotechnology, and industry partners and participate in teaching, mentorship, and service activities supporting SEM and Texas A&M University in the area of translational research. About the School of Engineering Medicine The School of Engineering Medicine (SEM) is a pioneer in translational medicine and research. Currently, SEM houses the Engineering Medicine (EnMed) medical education program ( enmed.tamu.edu ), an innovative program that represents a partnership among the Texas A&M College of Engineering (COE), Texas A&M Vashisht College of Medicine (VCOM), and Houston Methodist Hospital (HMH). Each of these partners has an outstanding national ranking and offers state-of-the-art facilities for education and research. In addition, TAMU, SEM, and HMH provide excellent support for innovation and entrepreneurship. Students applying to the EnMed program must have an undergraduate degree in an engineering or computer science discipline and meet the prerequisites required by VCOM and COE. EnMed is the nation’s only program to award both a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a Master of Engineering in Innovation in Medicine degree within four years. About the Location This position is based in the Discovery Tower, adjacent to the Texas Medical Center (TMC) in Houston. The TMC, the largest medical center in the world, hosts 21 hospitals and 8 specialty institutions, including the largest pediatric and cancer hospitals. The TMC ecosystem is also a global hub for medical technology innovation, featuring numerous startups, incubators, accelerators, and research institutions Position Responsibilities Maintain an externally funded research program. Oversee molecular or cellular therapeutics development from product scale-up and validation through manufacturing, clinical translation, distribution, and commercialization Build collaborations across academic, clinical, research, biotechnology, and industry partners. Participate in teaching, mentorship, and service activities supporting SEM and Texas A&M University in the area of translational research. Qualifications Medical Degree (M.D.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), or equivalent terminal degree in medicine, biomedical sciences, engineering, or a related field, with academic and scholarly accomplishments appropriate for appointment at the tenured Associate Professor level. Demonstrated record of research productivity, external funding, and experience in translational biomedical research and therapeutic development. Expertise in cell and gene therapy and/or advanced therapeutic manufacturing, including product development, manufacturing processes, and clinical translation of investigational therapies. Demonstrated leadership in research, therapeutic manufacturing, innovation, entrepreneurship, and/or commercialization of biomedical discoveries. Proven ability to build and sustain collaborations across academic, clinical, research, and industry settings. Demonstrated experience mentoring students, trainees, scientists, and/or other research professionals.
