About the role
Summary The Technical Support Specialist III, for Building, Operations and Network Design devises and maintains data cabling installation and support standards for FCS schools and facilities. Essential Duties Conducts analysis of data network wiring needs and makes installation recommendations Attends all facilities meetings to define and enforce IOT device standards (vendor and OAC calls) Manages endpoint and structured cabling vendors Installs, tests and maintains local area network cabling systems throughout the District Cables portable classrooms Maintains an inventory of cabling supplies used for quick response to cabling requests as well as maintains parts inventory and order replacement parts Installs conduit as needed Troubleshoots network cabling problems Installs data racks and other hardware in network rooms Creates “Outside plan” network installations (network cabinet design for LAN, WAN, extension, etc) Performs hardware upgrades when necessary Creates data center cabling design Performs cable patching, patch panel management Setups and configures electronic equipment Operates and maintains a service vehicle Maintains required technical certifications Attends training classes as required Manages wireless access points Troubleshoots, manages, and programs telephones, camera/security, and intercoms Manages renovation additions and new builds Manages indoor/outdoor digital signage Works in concert with architects and project managers/contractors Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator Required Education Associate's Degree in Electronics or equivalent electronics training or In lieu of degree, will consider 2 years of related experience per year of college (4 years) Certification/Licensure A+ certification preferred Must be able to gain vendor certifications for items maintained Must possess a valid Georgia driver license Experience Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience in computer technical support required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Must be skilled in fiber optic and twisted pair copper cable installation, termination, testing and repair Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Operating Systems and MS Office Ability to use hand tools and test equipment Electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills Software diagnostic skills Must be able to understand and follow directions both written and verbal Good communication skills both verbal and written Working Conditions Work performed in school classrooms, offices and electronic equipment rooms Some work performed outside when cabling portable classrooms Daily driving to many locations Physical Demands Requires extensive walking, standing and bending Requires climbing ladders, working in drop ceiling spaces, working on roofs and scaffolding Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds Good or correctable vision without color identification restrictions is required
