This Opportunity Our team is growing, and we are searching for a highly motivated Senior Roadway Engineer/Technical Director to join our San Antonio, Texas transportation team.  The ideal candidate will have extensive experience leading TxDOT and municipal roadway projects in the San Antonio and the South Texas region. This individual will collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, and technical staff to deliver high-quality roadway design projects while fostering a culture of teamwork and excellence. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and mentorship to staff, support the continued growth of WSP's presence in the San Antonio and South Texas market, and cultivate strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders. Responsibilities include managing the development of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E), schematic design, transportation operations, and construction-related services for a variety of transportation infrastructure projects. Serving as a primary point of contact for public agencies, contractors, and private-sector clients, this individual will manage projects independently, lead multidisciplinary teams, oversee project budgets and schedules, and prepare scopes of work and fee proposals. Serves as technical liaison with clients on project efforts and coordinates technical efforts within discipline areas. Ability to develop project scope, fee estimating, and proposal preparation, interviews, and negotiations. Reviews assigned project(s) after award to define project scope, determine work procedures/sequences and develops schedules, budgets, staffing, sub-consultant involvement, and progress billings. Applies engineering principles, methods, and techniques to a wide variety of transportation-related activities. Prepares and modifies reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental studies, and designs for projects. Performs problem solving skills for engineering-related problems and evaluates the need for design changes or recommendations. Reviews plans, specifications, estimates, general notes, and shop/working drawings. Adheres to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual. Consults with construction personnel concerning design constructability as related to field conditions, sequencing, and scheduling of construction activities. Submits documents to federal, state, and local agencies for code compliance review and obtains permits required. Performs analysis or calculations to check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of engineering data. Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work. Reports any safety issues or concerns to management. Ability to interface with staff from a range of other disciplines (traffic, planning, structures, geotechnical, environmental, etc.) to support a diverse range of projects. Assist in supporting agency coordination, permitting, and public participation activities. Who You Are BS in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university 15 plus years’ relevant engineering experience on transportation projects with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Project Manager on Transportation projects (TxDOT experience recommended). Proficient experience in DOT design methods, plan preparation, standards, specifications and budgets. Professional Engineering License in the state of Texas required. Strong history and experience with San Antonio projects and programs. Proficient in OpenRoads, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office tools and ProjectWise. Proven leadership, communication, mentoring and client liaison skills. Self-motivated with a willingness to work and lead a team. Accept accountability for the team and create a positive work environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be flexible, well organized, accountable, and dependable.
