Postdoctoral Fellow

About the role

The  Bywater Institute’s mission is to catalyze thriving climate and water futures through transdisciplinary, collaborative scholarship. This Postdoctoral Fellow will work primarily with  Dr. Simone Domingue, Research Assistant Professor. Her lab conducts actionable and equity-oriented research for Gulf Coast communities experiencing disruption from environmental change and climate-related disasters. The Fellow’s primary duties will be collecting and analyzing data on the environmental and social histories of Gulf Coast communities vulnerable to climate hazards, and they will support projects bringing together jurisdictions for regional watershed management and resilience planning.  This includes development of data collection instruments and coding frameworks, coding data, and performing analyses on coded data. Responsibilities also include data storage and management and development of outputs including methods reports, manuscripts for academic journals, presentations, posters, abstracts, and/or other informational materials for research dissemination. The Fellow will be able to dedicate part of their time to advancing their own research and will have access to the ByWater Institute’s network of university, institutional, and community partners. They will be able to pursue professional development opportunities, including engaging in grant-writing and developing collaborative research projects.  The two-year Fellowship may be extended, depending on the Fellow’s desire and pursuit of additional funding.    Required Education And Experience    Terminal Degree (Ph.D.) in a social science, environment-related, or other field with strong focus on social dimensions of hazards Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies  Strong research skills (qualitative and/or quantitative methods) Ability to independently implement data collection and analysis, as well as train and direct others  Ability to quickly learn new research methods and techniques  Excellent time management, interpersonal, written, and communication skills  Eagerness to collaborate with others  Preferred Qualifications      Experience with archival research   Experience designing informational materials for broad audiences (such as, but not limited to, presentations, research briefs, interactive maps, infographics, etc.) Experience working with geospatial data    Experience with inclusive facilitation  Required Applicant Materials: Interested candidates should submit the following materials: Cover letter summarizing the applicant’s relevant experiences and fit with position CV Research statement (maximum 2 pages, single-spaced) Names and contact information of three professional references  For further inquiries about this position, please email Dr. Simone Domingue at.   Tulane University is an equal opportunity educator and employer committed to providing an education and employment environment free of unlawful discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
