About the role

Job Title: English as a Second Language Teacher Classification: Certified Primary Function: Responsible for increasing student achievement.  Main functions include but are not limited to: Assisting students with developing thinking skills and content knowledge Providing language support as needed Planning and implementation of standards-based instruction Establishing a positive classroom environment and culture for learning Analyzing data and action planning Consistently communicating with stakeholders Implementing the SIOP framework and metalinguistic awareness Providing data and reports that are evidence of student progress Accountability:  Reports to Building Level Administrators & District Level Administrators Education/Certification: Professional Educator's Licence (PEL) with degree/endorsement in ESL Bachelor's Degree in Education Master's Degree preferred SPED endorsements preferred Knowledge/Skills: Thorough understanding of the Illinois Learning Standards Thorough knowledge of the SIOP framework and/or strategies that lead to increased student achievement Thorough knowledge of best practices in English as a Second Language Thorough understanding of the content being taught Strong planning and implementation skills Communicate clearly orally and in writing in both Spanish and English preferred Strong collaboration skills Data analysis skills Knowledge/implementation of restorative discipline practices Strong understanding of equitable classroom practices High expectations for all students including language learners Other: Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations including special education laws Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior; serve as a role model for students and other staff Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job Other duties as assigned Disclaimer: This is not necessarily an all-inclusive list of job-related responsibilities, duties, skills, efforts, requirements or working conditions.
