PUSD Classification Salary Range: $20.44 - $26.17 per hour Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $20.44 per hour (step 1) - $23.71 per hour (step 4) Limited Term (Substitute Hiring Range: $20.44 (step 1) Candidates who pass all of the examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list according to their score(s). Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates. The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same, or equivalent, job classification and will be active for six (6) months (Merit Rule 50.100.1). *Current vacancy is 8 hours per day, 9.5 months per year at Twin Peaks Middle School. BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Middle School After School Education & Safety (ASES) Supervisor, assist in the overall activities of middle school children in the ASES program; assist in planning and designing activities; maintain records and files; assist in the training and supervision of aides and student workers. Examples of duties REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Assist the ASES Supervisor in daily activities; organize and prepare a positive learning environment; prepare materials and supplies; lead and supervise students in activities in a classroom, library, computer lab, and/or outdoor environment. E Maintain a safe and secure environment for students; develop positive student behavior with incentives and reinforcements. E Participate in the hiring, training, and supervision of regular and student aides; contact substitutes; establish and maintain employee records for personnel and payroll. E Prepare registration packets; maintain files and records including student enrollment; calculate and forward monthly attendance reports to District ASES attendance coordinator. E Administer first aid and follow necessary emergency procedures; verify medication authorization; monitor medical conditions; identify and report safety hazards on site. E Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; assist in maintaining a clean and orderly environment. E Perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, duplicating, recording attendance and laminating materials. E Assist with budget planning including purchasing and receiving supplies; maintain inventory control of food, supplies and equipment. E Communicate with current and prospective parents and various organizations to explain the ASES program; coordinate program activities with District personnel as needed; contact guest speakers; organize field trips; provide tours for visitors. E Participate in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned. E Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software; drive a vehicle to conduct work. E Perform related duties as assigned. NOTE: At the end of some of the duty statements, there is an "E" which identifies essential duties required of the classification. Qualifications KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Child development principles and practices. Safe practices in classroom activities. Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct. Maintaining a safe, clean and orderly environment. Modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Basic record-keeping techniques. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Oral and written communication skills. Policies and procedures of assigned program and activities. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Health and safety regulations. ABILITY TO: Assist the ASES Supervisor with supervision and related activities of the school program. Make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Complete work with many interruptions. Oversee and discipline students according to approved policies and procedures. Operate standard office equipment including computer and assigned software. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 6 units of early childhood development or related field and one year experience working in a preschool, child care or middle school program Supplemental information LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver's license. Valid certifications provided by American Heart Association, American Red Cross or District approved provider for First Aid, Adult/Child CPR and AED. Online certifications will be accepted from these vendors as long as a hands-on skills assessment is completed. Recertification to maintain current/valid status is a condition of employment. Valid Food Handlers Card issued by an authorized agency (required within 6 months of employment). WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Classroom and playground environment. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. Constant interruptions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time. Kneeling, crouching or bending at the waist to assist students. Seeing to read a variety of materials and to observe students. Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment. Lifting moderately heavy objects. HAZARDS: Contact with blood or other body fluids. In accordance with Personnel Commission Rules and Regulations of Classified Service # 70.200.1, new employees to Poway Unified School District will be placed at Step 1 of the official salary range designated for the position. Any variances in initial placement are addressed in, and shall be carried out in agreement with, this rule. Effective July 1, 2020, all new employees to Poway Unified School District will be responsible for the fingerprint fee associated with new employee processing at the cost of $74 - cash/check ($76 for credit cards).
