Description The Department of Earth, Environmental & Planetary Sciences (DEEPS) at Brown University is searching for a tenure-track faculty member at the level of Assistant Professor whose research focuses broadly on the use of geochemistry to study changes and feedbacks in Earth’s climate system. Progress on the most pressing challenges in climate science increasingly requires an approach that blends cutting-edge, novel observations and field/lab-based measurements with numerical models of the Earth system. We seek a faculty member studying changes in Earth’s climate and the surface Earth system across a variety of timescales with the expertise to tackle these challenges. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, analytical and experimental geochemistry, applications of isotope geochemistry to climate science, biogeochemical measurements and modeling, data-model intercomparison, critical zone science, chemical oceanography, and geochemistry at the interface of earth resources and environmental solutions. The candidate’s research portfolio should advance and leverage existing strengths in DEEPS in analytical geochemistry, paleoceanography/paleoclimatology, terrestrial biogeochemistry, remote sensing, physical oceanography, and climate modeling.   Qualifications     Applicants are required to hold a Ph.D. prior to the expected start date of the position (July 1, 2027).     Application Instructions   The following documents must be submitted online as PDFs to:: (1) a cover letter that includes names and contact information for three references (not to exceed 2 pages); (2) curriculum vitae; (3), a statement of research (no more than 3 pages) in which the candidate demonstrates their fit to the stated research themes and presents a research plan that is likely to lead to extramural research funding; and (4) a statement of teaching interests and philosophy (no more than 3 pages).
